Rio Carnival 2010 February 13th - 16th 2010
Carnival is celebrated in a number of countries worldwide but the biggest and most well-known carnival is indisputably the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In Brazil, Carnival is an annual festival held four days before Ash Wednesday, the Roman Catholic beginning of Lent. Lent is a 40 day period in which Christians traditionally abstained from the pleasures of the flesh, mainly sex and the consumption of meat and poultry. Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is considered the greatest party on Earth with origins that date back to 1723. It has become a wild and extravagant four-day celebration attracting half a million foreign tourists annually.
